Legitimisation of non-participation in adult education and training: the situational logic of decision-making

The study deals with strategies for legitimising non-participation in adult education and training (AET) groups of people the lowest levels participation: low-educated workers, retired individuals on parental leave. It aims to identify describe non-participation. Results are based extensive qualitative research focused mapping situational determinants AET. For this purpose, a total 53 semi-structured interviews were conducted analysed. Through generic coding procedure, four key identified: (1) commitment lifelong learning; (2) preference experience over theoretical knowledge; (3) complete dedication (4) mobilisation past educational experience.
